Abstract

Supplying consuming devices; starting prime movers.-An internal-combustion engine driving a D.O. generator is started automatically when the load circuit is closed, current then passing from a starting battery D contacts 5, 7 of an electromagnetic switch B, the load, armature C of the generator and thick and thin wire coils of an electromagnetic switch A. Contacts 1, 2 on this switch open the short circuit on the magnets and contacts 3, 4 close the circuit of a starting motor F. When the generator field builds up the circulation of field current through the coil of switch 13 opens the starting battery circuits at contacts 5, 6, 7 and closes the dynamo-load circuit at contacts 8, 9. The thick wire coil of switch A holds the magnet short-circuit open until load is switched off, whereupon the switches A and B return to their original positions and the plant comes to rest. A modification is described in which a solenoid switch, connected between contacts 4, 6, controls an independent circuit for the starter motor and a closing contact on switch A controls a coil-ignition circuit.
