Abstract

330,898. Foulds, A. G. March 18, 1929. Puncture or deflation, indicating.-An electrical device for indicating deflation of a tyre comprises a rotary element 2 adapted to be fixed at the wheel-centre 1 and having a passage 3 which, by a pipe connection 45, is adapted to place the air-tube in communication with a Bourdon tube 12, the movement of which controls a contact-member in an electrical signalling- circuit. In the form shown, the Bourdon tube 12 and its associated parts are arranged to rotate on ball bearings inside a fixed casing 47 on which a junction-box 8 is fitted with two insulated pins 7 forming part of the circuit. A telescopic support 35, fitted with a universal joint at its lower end, adapted to be hung from the mudguard or other fixed part of the vehicle, is fitted with leads 41 for connecting the pins 7 to a plug in the wiring system on the vehicle. As shown in Fig. 1, the movable end of the Bourdon tube 12 is connected to a sector 15 which meshes with a pinion 16 carrying a contact-arm 18. The other (fixed) contact 24 is carried by a screw 23, Fig. 4, which is adjustable in a slot 22 to determine the minimum pressure at which the signalling-circuit is closed. The actual signals on the vehicle may consist of lamps, bells, dropshutters, &c.
