Abstract

330,727. Russell, R. May 14, 1929. Seat adjustments.-Relates to an adjustable chair or seat having a back supported by an adjustable strut or stay of the kind described in Specification 264,669 in connection with drop-end couches. Remote control for the adjusting mechanism is pro. vided. The chair or seat is supported in an adjusted position by a strut comprising an irregularly shaped plate 11<a>, Fig. 1, pivoted at 12 to a, hinge 14 on the frame of the chair and a link 27 pivoted at 23 to the arm 20 of a hinge 18 attached to the top cross member 11 of of the adjustable back, the plate and link being pivoted together at 28 so as to be foldable and the plate having teeth for engagement with a catch-lever 22 mounted on the pivot pin 23. The catch-lever 22 that serves to secure the back 11 in an adjusted position comprises two plates 22 one on each side of the hinge arm 20 with an end pin 21 adapted to engage with the notches 16. The catch is operated by a lever 30 and a wire connection 31 to rock the catch mechanism against the action of the spring 26, the movement of the catch relative to the plate in one direction being limited by a projection 17. Fig. 3 shows the strut operating in an armless chair such as an automobile seat. The catch lever is operated by remote control comprising a flexible cable 40 within an incompressible flexible casing 41, the cable being actuated by a lever 42. One end of 41 is mounted in an adjustable tubular bolt 44 mounted in a bracket 45.
