This invention relates to a device for atat the under side thereof, as shown in Figtaching an end to the frame of a folding bed ures 2 and 3. of the concealable type. More particularly The device includes attaching members 12 the invention relates to a device which not each of which consists of an elongatedpiece only serves for attaching the end, but also of metal of suitable length. Each member 51 to mount it so that it may be moved in rela- 12 has holes therein to accommodate fastention to the frame to a folded position paralleling elements 13 which serve for fastening ing the frame, and also a position perpenmembers 12 to the frame 10. The members dicular to the frame, as the bed is moved into 12 are secured respectively to the opposite and out of its position for use. side rails of the frame 10. Use is made of so The principal object of the invention is the rigid members or arms, there being a first provision of an improved device of the inarm 14 and a second arm 15, the latter being dicated character which will be of ehicient shorter than the former. A pair of arms 14 and substantial design, and which will enable and 15 is arranged between each attaching the parts of a folding bed to be conveniently member 12 and the side member 16 of the foot 5 and easily moved in relation to each other for end 11, and the arms 14 and 15 are also arthe purposes mentioned. ranged in spaced relation with respect to each The nature of the invention and its distinother. One end of the arm 1 L is pivotally guishing features and advantages will appear connected as at 17 with the related member 2 when the following specification is read in 12, and the opposite end thereof is pivotally 7o connection with the accompanying drawings, connected as at 18 with the related side memin which ber 16. The arm 15 has one end thereof piv- Figure 1 is a section of a portion of a foldotally connected as at 19 with the related ing bed frame, the foot end and the attachmember 12 in advance of the pivot 17 and 2E- ing device embodying features of the inventhe opposite end of said arm 15 is pivotally 75 tion; connected as at 20 with the related side mem- Figure 2 is a section on the line 2-2 of ber 16 above the pivot 18. A short link 21 Figure 3; Y has one end thereof pivotally connected as at Figure 3 is a View looking at the under side 22 with each member 12 at one side of a line of a portion of the bed frame and showing the extending through pivots 17 and 19 and disfoot end thereof in folded position, and parts posed between the pivots 17 and 19. A tenof the frame and foot end being broken away. sion spring 23 has one end connected as at The present invention essentially involves 24 with the free end of the link 21 and its a frame 10 of a folding bed, and one of the opposite end is connected as at 25 with the 5 ends, namely, the foot end 11 of the bed in related arm 14 between its ends. Each of the present instance. It is to be understood the attaching members 12 has studs or stops that the frame 10 supports the usual spring, 26 and 27, respectively. The arms 15 comattress and bedding, and is mounted for operate respectively with the studs 26 to limit movement from a horizontal position for use the motion of the foot end 11 to a position in into a substantially vertical position within which the foot end will be disposed perpena recess or chamber in which the bed is to be dicular to the frame 10, as the bed is swung concealed. 7 down for use. It will therefore be under- The device of the present invention, as stood that the foot end of the frame 10 will stated, serves for attaching the foot end 11 be supported by the foot end 11 by virtue of to the frame 10 and also serves to so mount the arms 15 and the studs 26. The arms let the end that it may be moved in relation to serve to brace the foot end 11. The bed the frame 10 to a position. substantially perframe 10 is moved to the horizontal position pendicular to the frame, as shown in Figure by grasping the top of the foot end 11 which so 1, and also to aposition paralleling the frame will bring the foot end 11 into proper posiw tion to horizontal position.
tion with respect to the frame 10, as shown in Fig. 1.
When the frame 10 is moved to its vertical position, the foot end 11 will assume a position substantially paralleling the frame 10. As the foot end 11 moves into the last mentioned position, the links 21 encounter the stops 27, respectively, and thus limit the movement of the links, so that the springs 23 will be disposed substantially parallel to the arms 14, as shown in Fig. 2. The springs 23 will be compelled to assume positions which will not interfere with the easy movement of the foot end 11 in relation to the frame 10, as the latter is swung from the vertical posi- It will also be apparent that the springs 23 .as connected with the links 21 will maintain the arms 15 in contact with the studs 26 with the foot end 11 disposed perpendicular to the frame 10. The springs 23 will be under tension at all times, and will aid in moving the foot end 11 to its set-up and folded positions in relation to the frame 10 and to retain it in such positions.
