Abstract

Fluid-pressure.-A triple valve for compressed air brakes comprises a central chamber 12 which is fed, and during brake application is closed, by means of a piston 7 influenced by the pressures in the brake cylinder 15 and in the auxiliary reservoir 10. A chamber 9 is provided for feeding the brake cylinder 15 to accelerate the initial application of the brake blocks. This chamber is fed from the train pipe 19 and the auxiliary reservoir, the connection of which to the chamber is narrower than the train pipe connection. The brake cylinder pressure is controlled by a double valve 5 actuated by a double piston 1, 3 influenced by the pressures in the chamber 12, the train pipe 19, the brake cylinder and a spring 4. The chamber 18 is connected to atmosphere. On charging the system pressure air is supplied from the train pipe 19 to the auxiliary reservoir 10 through a feed valve 6 in the chamber 9 and also to a chamber 11 in the part A containing the piston 7 which is driven to the left so that the chamber 12 and a secondary reservoir 13 are supplied through a passage 20. On brake application, brake cylinder pressure in a chamber 16 drives the piston 7 to the right to close the passage 20.
