Abstract
330,537. Carpmael, A., (I. G. Farbenindustrie Akt.-Ges.). March 8, 1929. Acetic anhydride is produced by passing aceticacid vapour over a catalyst comprising boron phosphate and an alkali phosphate or other compound of an alkali metal at 4o0-700‹ 0. When a deposit of carbon appears, the catalyst is regenerated by ignition in air. The catalyst is prepared by adding boron phosphate to a solution of alkali phosphate, borate, carbonate or hydroxide, evaporating the whole to dryness, and calcining. In the examples the catalysts are prepared from boron phosphate and acid sodium ammonium phosphate, borax and sodium hydrate respectively. Another catalyst mentioned is prepared from boron phosphate, lithium metaphosphate, and sodium metaphosphate.
