Abstract
330,420. Taurel, P. Dec. 20, 1928, [Convention date]. Screwing.-In a portable machine for threading the end of a pipe d, the pipe, is gripped between vice jaws b mounted on a base a and operated from a handle c<1> through a right and left hand threaded spindle c so that the work is always centrally held in the machine. The base is provided with supports e, e<1>, carrying respectively a sliding arm f and a pivot pin h for a swinging frame member g. A gear casing i<1> is connected by a pivot pin k with the frame g and by removable bolts j with the tube f. The operating wheel s may be positioned to drive a pinion l connected through parallel spindles n, o<1> and gears m, p, m<1>, p<1>, to a wheel q on a member t which carries arms u adapted to engage and drive the die stock v. To obtain a higher speed the wheel s may be engaged with a pinion r of larger diameter than the pinion l. The wheels m, m<1> are connected to their hubs through friction surfaces m<2>, m<3>, Fig. 7, which are adapted to slip if excessive force is exerted. In order to push the dies on to the work a member x, Fig. 8, secured to the casing i<1> carries a ring x<3> which is forced by springs x<4> against the die stock. To remove the stock, the casing is released from the tube f and swung over to the! dotted position in Fig. 2. The screwed tube may be saw-cut or fitted with a union without removing it from the jaws b.
