Abstract
330,065. India-Rubber, Gutta Percha, & Telegraph Works Co., Ltd., and Avery, W. L. April 17, 1929. Fluid-pressure; blocks and shoes acting on drums; blocks and shoes.-The brake for an aircraft landing wheel is disposed in the hub 1 and comprises a stationary support drum 3 carrying an annular inflatable member 19 adapted to thrust a plurality of brake members 22 against the internal surface of the hub. The member 19 is arranged between flanges 17, 18, and has secured to it the members 22 having portions 23 entering guide slots in the flanges. The hub is supported on the drum 3 by ball bearings 6, 7 located by means of rings 9, 11. Within the drum 3 is arranged means for suspending the wheel upon the axle 16, such for instance as described in Specification 312,139, [Class 4, Aeronautics]. The axle 16 passes through slots in the end plates of the drum 3 and has collars having flat sides engaging the sides of the slots to prevent rotation of the drum 3. The invention is also shown applied to a wheel where no resilient suspension means is incorporated in the hub. To prevent the inflatable member completely collapsing upon itself in the neighbourhood of the supply conduit and thus preventing quick release, the drum is turned or arranged eccentrically, the deepest part of the channel thus formed being at the location of the supply conduit. The hub may have a replaceable liner. Specifications 302,385, and 312,129, [Class 4, Aeronautics], also are referred to.
