Abstract
329,337. Groeneveld, G. Dec. 11, 1928. Running generators in parallel. - In a supply system wherein two or more generators A, B, C, in parallel, supply load groups G, F, E, D of varied importance for example, on board ship where D might be the load of the steering motors and G the kitchen load, the less important load groups are disconnected by means of overload relays 2 which are independent of the overload and reverse current tripping arrangements on the main circuit breakers 1. In the arrangement shown, three relays control contacts 3 all in series through which the hold-on coils 4 of the load group switches are energized from the bus-bar 5. If generator A becomes heavily overloaded the relay 2 operates (before the circuit-breaker 1) and de-energizes the holding coil of the switch 4 of load group G. It does not de-energize the switches of groups F and E because independent maintaining circuits controlled by relays 6 in the main bus-bar circuit are established for the holding coils of these through back contacts 8 of these group switches. When, however, the group G is cut out the relay 6 for group F opens and if another generator fails group F is cut out and so on. Group D is not provided with cut-out means.
