328,988. Imperial Chemical Industries, Ltd., and Brightman, R. Feb. 8, 1929. Monoazo dyes obtained by diazotizing oxamic acids of the benzidine series and coupling with a naphtholsulphonic acid, a 1: 8-aminonaphtholsulphonic acid, a -naphthylamine sulphonic acid, a 1 : 8-dioxynaphthalene sulphonic acid, or a mdiaminobenzene derivative give even shades on viscose silk. The dyestuffs obtained by coupling diazotized benzidine oxamic acid with 1 : 4-naphtholsulphonic acid (bluish-scarlet), 1: 8-aminonaphthol-4-sulphonic acid (brownish violet), 1- amino-8-naphthol-3: 6-disulphonic acid (violet), m-phenylene diamine (orange brown), and diazotized dianisidine oxamic acid with 1-naphthol-5- sulphonic acid (violet), m-phenylenediamine (orange), 1-amino-8-naphthol-2: 4-disulphonic acid (bluish-violet), 1 : 8-dioxynaphthalene-3: 6- disulphonic acid (violet), naphthionic acid (reddish orange), 2-naphthylamine-6-sulphonic acid (yellowish orange), and 1: 8-aminonaphthol-3: 6- disulphonic acid (bluish-violet) are specified.
