Compound sheet materials.-A flexible semimetallic "piece" fabric consists of a plurality of double intercoiled flattened helical bands or strips in parallel, connected together by staples or like fasteners, having the interstices filled with and embedded between rubber laminae and covered with textile fabric, the whole being consolidated by pressure and afterwards vulcanized. A plurality of layers may be combined. The metallic members may be each embedded in rubber and enclosed in a braided covering of textile material and then enclosed in the rubber laminae and the laminae of fabric and the whole rolled, squeezed or pressed. The fabric, prior to vulcanization, may be given a shaped character.
