Pulping-engines.-A beating engine for paper and like pulp comprises a pair of conical beaters or refiners i, j and a tower or chest a with a pump d and pipe connections and valves so arranged that the stuff can be circulated through the beaters individually, in series, or in parallel. A common discharge conduit r and distributing device s delivers the stuff back to the head of the tower.
