Abstract

327,833. Bowen, T. O. March 7, 1929. Reel and reel carriages. - A hose reel, on which the hose may be permanently connected to the water supply as it is unwound, comprises a hub 3, carrying reel arms 2, and having a connection 10 for the hose, and a ported axle tube 6 which is fixed to carriage members 13 and connected to the water supply at 16. Stuffing-box joints 8 are formed at each end of the hub by plates 9 which are pressed by the bolts 4 securing, in slots, the arms 2. The carriage members 13 are bent round the tube 6, extend outwardly, and are braced by diagonal bracing 14. The Provisional Specification describes a reel, the tubular hub of which, is mounted to rotate on a stand, and carries at one end, with a stuffing-box joint, a tube to which the water supply pipe is connected and which is prevented from rotating by an arm extending from the stand, and at the other end a block which accommodates a handle for rotating the reel. A carriage comprises arms with hinged legs at each end, arrangements being provided for locking the legs in raised positions, for use as handles, when the reel is to be transported.
