327,429. Griffiths, F. E., Shufflebotham, J. S., and Imperial Chemical Industries, Ltd., Dec. 28, 1928. Divided application. Waterproofing; proofing compositions.-Paper tubes for shot gun cases or cartridges are protected against damp by a coating of a mixture of cellulose esters or ethers, or mixed esters and ethers, resin and drying oil. Suitable compositions are described containing nitrocellulose, ester gum, blown linseed oil, dibutyl phthalate, toluol, industrial spirit and butyl acetate. Cases may be coated with a composition of this type and then with a second coating of a similar composition without the resin and drying oil. Such a composition is described containing nitrocellulose, methyl ethyl ketone, toluol, industrial spirit and butyl acetate. The noses of the cases thus coated are dipped in a lubricant, such as vaseline dissolved in petrol, to allow of their being turned over without damaging the coating.
