Abstract

327,407. Ingeberg, H. C. M., and Vesterlid, A. Jan. 2, 1929. Boards.-A material for insulating against heat and sound, and also for constructional purposes such as wainscoating, comprises a mixture of 99-50 per cent by weight of straw or hay which has been defibrated by mechanical treatment, e.g., in a hollander or in a roller crusher, or by subjecting to high-pressure steam or gas and suddenly releasing the pressure, and 1-50 per cent by weight of any kind of chemical fibrous cellulose, e.g., sulphite cellulose. A, network of straw, hay, metal gauze, wire, woven material, rope, or the like may be embedded in the mass. The material may be dyed, or may be fireproofed with ammonium sulphate, aluminium hydrate, or the like, or may be treated with a preservative such as zinc meta-arsenate, or a water-proofing agent such as linseed oil or solid paraffin. The material may be surfaced with a suspension of cellulose or wood pulp, or asbestos fibres in water, which may be mixed with dyeing, glutinous, or filling substances, or the material may be painted, dyed, or moulded. The material may he reinforced with an outer covering of metal sheet, metal gauze, net, cloth, pasteboard, asbestos paper or the like, or these may be embedded, or the composition may be mixed with stalks of straw or hay either separately or connected to a network of metal wire gauze, woven substances, ropes, or the like.
