Cigarette-making machines. - In a continuous - rod machine provided with means for producing a rod of elliptical cross-section with a crease at either end of the longer axis of the ellipse, the former for producing the creases has at least two surfaces adjustable to compress the rod. In the machine shown in Fig. 1, the cigarette rod passes from the forming and pasting devices 4, 6 through the creasing device 7 before passing to a heater 8 for drying the paste and to the usual cutter 9 and delivery apparatus 10. The creasing device comprises a bracket 11, Fig. 3, adjustably secured to the garniture block 4 and carrying an upper pressure member 13, Figs. 3 and 4, with a curved surface 14 of part-elliptical section. Lower pressure members 15 are laterally adjustable on the block 4 and have faces which are tangential to the elliptical surface formed by the tape 5, or may be curved to conform to the tape; the lateral adjustment of the members 15 controls the sharpness of the creases made by the member 13.
