Abstract
325,836. Huntley, W. J., and Hambling, F. W. B. Nov. 29,1928. Ground anchors.-An anchor designed to attach itself automatically to the surface on which it im. pinges comprises a casing d terminating in prongs e and containing a centrallymounted screw a guided by inclined plates t. The prongs are designed to enter the ground on contact which further results in the depression of a spring- controlled plunger h which terminates in a member extending into the upper part of the casing d and actuates relay-mechanism which operates a pinion p fast on the screw and causes the latter to advance and bore itself into the ground. The relay mechanism, which is described in detail, may be actuated electrically, pneumatically or by explosive power such as rockets, and arrangements are provided for retracting the screw when required. The casing d may be fired from a gun or dropped from the sea or aircraft to be anchored.
