Window frames ; sills.-The lintel a and sill b are grooved or recessed to receive during erection two or more complete window frames f, g, h, which are correspondingly shaped and which are nailed to the sill &c. and along their vertical meeting edges, the joints being covered by fillets s. Tarred felt. or other waterproof packing may be inserted between the frame and sill &c. The frame members are mitred at the corners and secured together by cleats the ends of which are inserted in saw cuts. In mounting bay windows. a flanged strip may be interposed between frames meeting at an angle. The sash frames may be of flanged sheet metal fixed with putty in a groove in the wooden frame, and when the windows are fixed these frames may be provided with sash bars. Casement sashes may be made of two flanged sheet-metal parts joined by bending one flange over another. In forming a square bay window, the frames meeting at right-angles may be joined by brackets 19, Fig. 9, the corner space being enclosed by boards 20, 21, or by a single inclined moulding.
