Igniters combined with gramophones. - An automatic advertising machine comprises in combination a mechanical cigarette lighter and a talking machine, and mechanism operatively associated with the lighter and talking machine whereby the act of operating the lighter occasions the operation also of the talking machine. As shown, the operating lever 3 for the lighter is loosely mounted on a stud projecting from the frame of a, machine and carries a pawl 6 which actuates a ratchet wheel 5 on the stud during the forward movement of the lever and this in turn, through trains of gearing, rotates the friction-wheel 2 of the lighter and also the divided shaft 8 on which is mounted the loose record mandrel 7, the record being rotated through a spring mounted on one section of the shaft so as to be wound up by the forward movement of the lever. A snuffer is also operated through links to put out the lighter by the return movement of the operating lever. The sound reproducing means need not be spring driven and in a spring driven machine the spring could be wound by means other than the operating member for the lighter.
