Rotary machines.-A device for marking trade marks &c. on meat products comprises a rotary drum 1 mounted in a, sector-shaped frame 15 formed with a handle 3, and fitted with helically inclined plates 10 to which are attached needles 2 arranged in the required design. The needles 2 revolve past a brush 4 which receives a fat soluble ink from a reservoir 5, and as the drum 1 is moved over the meat product the needles penetrate into the fat, and a number of trade marks are printed therein, so that when the product is cut up into smaller joints, these will all be marked. A guard 16 is arranged beween the needles 2 and the handle 3. Inking-apparatus. - The brush 4 has bristles embedded in a rubber plate and enclosed in a tubular sheath 18. The reservoir 5 is supplied with ink from a tubular reservoir arranged inside the handle 3. A screw-plug 23 with a course thread fitted with a gasket 24 controls the flow of ink to the lower reservoir, and this plug is normally closed to prevent a too rapid flow. Printing-surfaces. - The helical plates 10 are attached to the rim of a drum skeleton by means of screws, and the sides of the drum are enclosed by discs 12 secured by screws 13. The needles 2 are tempered, but in welding these needles to the plates 10 a clamp is used having an oil bath in which the tips of the needles dip. The shanks of the needles are thus annealed during the welding process, but the tips remain hardened, thereby diminishing tendency of the needles to break during the marking, process.
