Abstract

323,103. Firth, F. C., Senior, S. J., and Tattersfield, C. T. Dec. 7, 1928. Mules.-To produce a relatively short traverse at the base of the cop during the winding of a predetermined number of draws, whereby, during weaving, this will become exposed to view as the cop approaches exhaustion, the shaper rail 1, Fig. 2, is provided with an auxiliary rail 4, which is raised about the rail 1 at the commencement of the winding, and is lowered automatically to be out of action where the desired number of draws have been made. The auxiliary rail 4 is pivoted to the main rail and provided with hanging pivoted arms 8, 9 engaging stops 12, 13 when vertical. The rod 14 connecting the shaper-shoes 3 carries a bracket 15 with an incline 16 adapted to raise the arm 9 and lift the rail 4 until the arm 8 swings into a vertical position to support it. The knocking-off mechanism to engage the arm 8 and release the rail 4 comprises a rod 17 controlled by a spring 32 and a spring lever 19 carrying a stud 22 engaging a slot in the rod. The rod 17 slides in brackets 18 and is provided with teeth 20 engaged by ratchets 23, 24. The ratchet 23 is pivoted on a lever 26 arid the ratchet 24 on an extension of a bracket 18. The lever 26 normally rests against an adjustable stop 41 under the action of a spring 56. At each traverse of the carriage 45 an arm 44 engages an adjustable screw 43 on the lever 26 and moves the rod 17 forward one tooth. When the desired number of draws have been made the rod 17 is moved into such a position that the end of the slot engages the stud 22 to move the lever 19 and release the prop 8, allowing the auxiliary rail to fall. A stop 46 on the bar 17, at this stage engages the lever 26 and holds it over in such a position that during the remainder of the winding it is not engaged by the carriage. At the commencement of a fresh set stops on the rod 14 engage the ratchets and lift them to release the rod 17 and allow the spring 32 to draw it back. A pin placed in the appropriate hole 57 engages the bracket 18 to act as a stop. In place of the auxiliary rail, the main rail may be similarly raised and supported at the desired angle.
