Abstract

322,400. Dehn, F. B., (Beloit Iron Works). Feb. 18, 1929. Winding webs.-A reel-discharging mechanism for a web-winding apparatus, particularly for paper making, slitting, and rewinding machines, in which a winding-spindle rests upon and is driven by a pair of winding-drums, comprises means for engaging the reel to move it over one of the drums and means for receiving and discharging the reel. A shaft 26, Figs. 1 and 2, arranged centrally beneath the winding-drums 5, 6, and adapted to be rocked when desired by electric, pneumatic, or hydraulic means, carries a pair of arms 28 supporting a reel-ejecting roller 31, and a pair of arms 44 carrying rollers 45 co-operating with flat and cam surfaces 65, 43 respectively on arms 42 carried by a shaft 33 on which are mounted reel-receiving and discharging arms 32. Fig. 1 shows the position of the roller 31 and arms 32 during the winding operation. When a reel is to be discharged, the shaft 26 is turned to bring the roller 31 into engagement with the reel and move it over the drum 6. At the same time the arms 44 are lowered to raise the arms 32 into the position shown in full lines in Fig. 2 to receive the reel which rolls by gravity into contact with the arcuate ends 36 of the arms 32. Upon reversal of the shaft 26, the arms 32 are gradually lowered to discharge the reel on to the floor 25 or other receiving surface. The arms 32 may be formed with a recess 39, Fig. 1, to receive a spare winding-shaft 40. In a modification, the reel-receiving arms have straight upper surfaces to conduct the reel on to a raised receiving surface. Specification 270,254 is referred to.
