Abstract
322,224. Greene, A. C. Aug. 31, 1928. Chevaux de frise and like means for stopping motor vehicles. A spiked mat or band for use in arresting the movements of motor vehicles consists of a mat of fabric, paper. or other suitable material formed in two or more thicknesses, the outer thickness or thicknesses being provided with upstanding spikes whereby the pneumatic tyres of road vehicles are punctured. The spikes may be formed of ordinary screws d with chiselshaped ends secured to discs e, or may be formed as hollow cylinders h integral with heads e. The heads are secured between the backing thicknesses with the points protruding through the other thickness of material, or both thicknesses of material may be provided with projecting spikes and in the latter form an intermediate thickness l may be used between the enlarged heads. The thicknesses may be secured together between the spikes. The mats may he made in single long lengths or in short lengths joined together by rupturable hooks, clips, or loops so that the entangled mat is separated from the others, and spiked mats may be alternated with plain mats in order that the tyres on one side of the vehicles only may be punctured.
