Abstract

322,072. Brook, I. Nov. 8, 1928. Perforating - appliances.-In appliances for marking cheques, drafts, &c., of the kind comprising a roller provided with sharp projections which is rolled over the cheque &c. to be marked and conveys ink thereto from an inking roller or pad, the inking roller or pad is pressed resiliently against the marking roller by means of a spring. The marking roller a, Figs. 1 and 3, is mounted on a shaft. c journaled within a supporting frame d, and the opposite sides of the frame are provided with longitudinal slots g to receive the ends of the shaft f of the inking roller e which rest upon lateral members on a frame d disposed within the frame d, a helical spring k being disposed between the bottoms of the frame d and h. The frame d may be mounted within a casing n and secured to a washer l therein by a screw m. The roller b projects from the end of the casing and may be covered bv a cap o. The other end of the casing may be provided with a removable ink reservoir p which may be removed to apply ink to the pad or roller e; or a small duct or tube may convey ink directly from the reservoir to the pad. The marking roller a is built up from a number of sheet-metal discs provided with circumferential projections b and mounted with spacing-bushes or collars upon the spindle c. The projections may be so arranged that they produce a particular sign or character upon the paper.
