Means for actuating a counter so that seepage of oil from the driving means to the registering discs is prevented comprises a reciprocating plunger mounted on a spring diaphragm, the movements of the plunger being obtained in one direction by relative rotary motion between the plunger and an obliquely inclined disc, and in the other direction by the spring diaphragm. A metal diaphragm a is secured between front b and back c of the casing to rotate therewith. The diaphragm has fastened to it at the centre two members d, f. One member d forms a plunger projecting into the front casing through an aperture e in the dividing partition and the other member f is provided with an oblique face against which abuts a similar face on a fixed spindle h on which the casing rotates. The two members d, f are provided with a plunger and socket to form a steadying device. A coiled spring may be provided to assist return movement of the plunger. The latter engages a blade spring m fixed at one end and passing across the aperture e, while'the spring engages one arm k<1> of a bell-crank k, k<1>, the other arm of which engages a slot o<1> in a lug o<4> extending from a disc o pivoted coaxially with the counter. The plate o opposite the slot o<1> is provided with a pawl which moves the ratchet wheel p of the counter. A retaining catch q<1> is provided, and also a finger q<2> to limit the stroke of the actuating pawl to one tooth of the wheel p. A pillar r with a screwed head limits the oscillation of the plate o. In a modification, a rotary disc having an oblique face is mounted on the cheek of a gear wheel driven from a pinion on the driving shaft and the plunger upon the diaphragm bears on the oblique face of the, disc.
