Abstract
319,682. I. G. Farbenindustrie Akt.- Ges. Sept. 26, 1928, [Convention date]. Polymerized vinyl esters.-Unpolymerized constituents are removed from polymerized vinyl esters by treating the product in finely-divided condition, with water for at least several hours at ordinary temperature or at a temperature too low to cause agglomeration of the product. The resin may be treated in the form of raspings or chippings, spun threads, thin sheets, or in the finely-divided form produced by spraying into water a solution of the resin in a solvent miscible with water, and the washing may be in a current of water for instance on the counter-current system. In the examples (1) polymerized vinyl acetate obtained as described in Specification 15271/14 in the form of raspings is placed in water which is circulated and is renewed several times, the washing being continued for 24 hours followed by drying in a vacuum at 40-45‹ C.; (2) the same polymerized product is spun under water (in warm semi-liquid form) by pressing through fine perforations and winding up the threads, which are then washed in water in counter-current for 2-3 days; (3) the polymerized product is pressed while warm between cooled rollers to form a thin sheet, which is moved upon rollers through flowing water until sufficiently washed.
