Abstract
319,156. Thompson, H. H., Davies, A. E., and Box, W. E. Oct. 30, 1928. Magnetic separators. - In a magnetic separator of the shoot type in which there is a balanced bridge plate d which is provided with an iron strip f which is normally attracted by a pole b of the separator to hold the plate in line during normal working but which swings on its pivots when the current fails, the bridge d is mounted on a spindle e provided with an arm g which is connected by a link h to an arm j mounted on a spindle k carrying a shutter l. During normal working, the shutter l is parallel to the bridge d, but should the current fail, the movement of the bridge d causes the shutter l to drop down and stop the feed of material to the separator. The controlling switch q may be connected to the bridge d by a pulley p connected by a belt or chain o which passes round a pulley n on the shafts e. The plate d prevents contact between the strip f and the pole b or non-magnetic studs may be provided on the underside of the pole b for the same purpose.
