Abstract

318,972. Haebler, G. Sept. 13, 1928, [Convention date]. Jacquards; pattern surfaces and the Like.-In jacquard-operating mechanism a current controlled by a light-sensitive cell b, Fig. 1, affected by light points on a pattern a arranged on a drum is amplified at g and operates a relay c for energizing an electromagnet d for controlling at each pick, each individual cord e, the circuit through the relay being completed by a slider f moving with the cell b. The cell may travel axially of the drum as shown, or the drum may be rotated for each pick. After each pick, the relays and magnets are returned to normal position through a circuit breaker i. Instead of using a pattern having light and dark points, to operate the jacquard, such pattern a, Fig. 3, may act in conjunction with a light-sensitive cell b and an amplifier g to cause a travelling steel band l to be magnetized by electromagnets k in parts corresponding to the points of the pattern, the band then being passed in proximity to magnet systems in which currents are induced. The induced currents are amplified and, through relays and electromagnets, control the heald cords.
