Guards.-The driving chains of cycles, motor vehicles, machinery, &c. are protected from dust &c. by readily removable guards which are made of flexible material, such as water-proofed fabric, rubber &c., and are adapted to be fixed to the chain by their own elasticity, or by spring fastening-members. As shown in Figs. 1 and 2, a flexible cover C of channel section is provided with U-shaped elastic fastening-members A, A<1> having their lower ends turned inwards as at i, so as to grip the side plates of the chain links. Lubricant may be retained by horizontal flanges on the lower part of the cover.
