Abstract

318,169. Maschinenfabrik Oerlikon. Aug. 29, 1928, [Convention date]. Commutators.-The commutator connections of a dynamo-electric machine armature are strengthened by inserting them in sleeves secured to the commutator. As shown in Fig. 1, the connections 2 of the winding A, B are passed through copper and brass sleeves 3 which are soldered in slots in the commutator segments 1. The sleeves may be tinned so that on heating a solid connection will be established with the wires 2 and segments 1. The sleeve may be bent and secured to the coils by means of a binding strip 5, and insulation may be applied in the form of a drawnin cotton tube. The sleeves are arranged as shown in Fig. 2, so as partly to embrace the insulation 6 of the connections. In a modification, Fig. 4, slotted strips 9 are soldered into slots 4 in the commutator segments and the strips are bent over so that one portion 8 embraces and is soldered to the wire 2, while the other portion 7 embraces the insulated part of the wires with or without the interposition of a flexible insulating tube.
