Abstract

Coils; commutators; windings.-For a winding made of strap and having more than two conductors per slot, each coil consists of an uninterrupted length of strap wound into a number of turns and associated with more than two commutator bars, with the coil. to-coil connections at one end of the armature, and the connections of the individual coil turns to the commutator bars at the other end. Figs. 1 and 2 show the arrangement in a 4-turn coil for a lap winding wherein the start 13 and finish 14 of the coil extend at one end beyond the spaced bends 17 of the strap conductor 10 and the bends 15 at the other end are inserted in slots 16 in the commutator segments. The start and finish 13, 14 are connected to the correspondingly projecting members of the adjoining coils. They may, alternatively, be of the same length as the bends 17, Fig. 3, which, in this case, are bunched together to leave space for the clips or the like which connect the coil ends. Instead of entering slots in the segments directly, the bends 16 may be connected to the commutator by light conr.ecting links which are sweated or brazed to the bends and into slots in the commutator segments or risers. If the machine has slip-rings or equalizers, these may be connected to the start and finish junctions.
