Collisions, lessening effects of. - In order to strengthen the ends of a passenger carriage, luggage van or other railway vehicle and thereby lessen the effects of a collision, the ends are provided with an armouring a extending downwardly as far as or below the axle b and reinforced by bars e, e, e<1>, e<11> which are connected to the underframe d and all or nearly all of which project below the latter. Preferably the bars e<0> - - e<11> are inclined to each other and to the longitudinal axis of the vehicle as shown in Fig. 2, while all the edges f are rounded or bevelled.
