Abstract
317,205. Clayton Aniline Co., Ltd., and Robinson, R. July 20. 1928. Amine aldehyde condensation products.-Products which retard the deterioration of indiarubber are prepared by treating an aromatic amine (or a mixture of aromatic amines) with a condensation product from an aromatic amine and an aliphatic aldehyde having two or more carbon atoms in the molecule. The aromatic amine to be treated with the condensation product may be a primary, secondary or tertiary amine of the benzene or naphthalene series, and the treatment may be effected (a) by treating the amine with the isolated and dried condensation product in the absence of a condensing agent and in the presence or absence of an indifferent solvent, or (b) by adding the amine to the. mass produced by the aldehyde-amine condensation and then removing water and solvent, if used, or (c) by including the amine in the initial reaction mixture, in cases where it does not react with the aldehyde under the existing conditions. According to the examples, (1) the acetaldehydealpha-naphthylamine condensation product described in Specification 316.761 is heated with diethylaniline below 100‹ C., (2) the same condensation product is fused with #-naphthylamine ; (3) a mixture of acetaldehyde, alpha-naphthylamine, and dimethylaniline is heated slowly to 80‹ C.
