Abstract
316,569. Lauritsen, O. B. July 31, 1928, [Convention date]. Void [Published under Sect. 91 of the Acts]. Magnetic compasses.-Apparatus particularly for use on aircraft for finding the course to be followed to pass over a given point comprises means for optically projecting an image of the compass card on to a screen in juxtaposition to a chart. The compass card a is illuminated from below by a lamp b and mirror c and an image of the graduations is formed by a mirror d and lens e on an annular ground glass screen f which surrounds the fixed chart, Fig. 2.. Concentric with the screen f is a rotatable ring h carrying arms m mounted on diametrically-opposite pivots k. These pivots are connected by a wire n and the outer ends of the arms are connected by wires p parallel to the wire n. By rotating the ring h and turning the arms m about their pivots, one of the wires can be made to lie along the line on the chart corresponding to the course to be followed. The course is then given by the angular setting of the ring h relatively to the screen f.
