Printing-surfaces; offset rollers.-A lithographic or offset printing-roller comprises a core coated with a compressed mixture of leather dust, copal, and hardened oil. The shaft 9 of the wooden or other core 6 to be coated and the shaft 10 of a hollow gas-heated pressure roller 7 are mounted in bearings 12 in slotted guides 13 in the frame 39, and are adjustable towards and from each other by screws 14 provided with lock nuts 15. The roller 7 is driven by a belt 17 and drives the core 6 at a higher speed by gearing 19 - - 22. Arranged round the core are other adjustable pressure rollers 26 driven by gears 23, 24 from the gear 22 and a wire brush roller 34 driven by a belt from the adjacent pressure roller 26 to roughen the surface of the finished coating. The coating material in powdered form is placed in a hopper 2 and flows in a thin stream between the core and pressure roller 7, becoming melted by the roller 7 and caused to adhere to the core by the pressure. The rollers are adjusted as the thickness of the coating increases, indicators 42 and scales being provided to facilitate the adjustment. Superfluous material runs down a guide 43 to a container 41.
