Abstract
316,452. Macleod, A. W. Aug. 23, 1928. C l o s u r e members; simple lift. - In a combined nozzle and discharge valve, particularly for use in dispensing oils and similar viscous s liquids, an axially moving tubular or solid plug 7 has its seating-surface tapered to form a knife edge, the coacting surface of the valve body being similarly formed and arranged so that the exterior edges of the coacting surface are coincident, or nearly so, thus reducing the "drip surfaces " to a minimum. When used as an anti-drip discharge nozzle, the plug 7 is automatically lifted by the fluid-pressure acting on a piston, formed by a cupped washer 13 and retaining-plate 16, when the main cock is offered, and is closed by a spring 20 when the pressure is shut off. When used as a manually-operated discharge valve, the plug may extend upwards and pass through a stuffing- box in the valve body to allow it to be lifted by a cam-action lever or other means. The coacting end of the plug may be made detachable and adapted to be applied to the main portion of the plug with a washer interposed between the body of the plug and the detachable end.
