Abstract

315,930. Freeman, S. B., and Imperial Chemical Industries, Ltd. May 4, 1928. Fats and fatty oils, extracting by solvents.-Oil, grease and the like deposited on the interior surfaces of steam condensers or other structures not readily accessible are removed by applying the vapour of a volatile solvent of low inflammability, particularly trichlorethylene, condensing it in situ, and removing the oil in solution. The solvent is vaporized by fixed or removable heating units either in the structure itself or in a vessel connected thereto, and is condensed by the cooling effect of the structure itself, or by the use of the water circulation in the case of a condenser, or by cooling coils placed inside the structure or in a vessel connected thereto. The pumps of a condenser may be used to assist the vaporization of the solvent.
