Abstract

329,156. Carrier Engineering Co., Ltd., and Robertson, k. J. R. May 10, 1929. Fats and fatty oils, extracting by solvents.- Greasy articles are cleaned by subjecting them to a vapour solvent for the grease and subsequently to the action of sprays of a solvent, whereby a combined solvent and physical cleaning article is attained. The articles 35 to be cleaned traverse a solvent vapour bath 25, similar to that described in Specification 322,797, and pass into a spray-cleaning duct 27, canopies 28, 29 being provided over the whole plant, as described in Specification 326,299, to prevent loss of vapour. The spray bath 27 is maintained at a temperature below the condensation temperature of the solvent by refrigerating coils 38, 39, 40 and solvent liquor is collected in a duct 41 in its base 42 and conveyed through a pipe 43 to a still 44 wherein the solvent is vaporized. The vapour passes through a pipe 45 provided with a valve 46 and is condensed in a tank 47 cooled by refrigerating coils 50. The purified solvent is drawn off by a pump 51 and supplied under pressure through a pipe 52 to a pair of spray nozzles 53, 54 and impinges on the articles 35. The supply of solvent vapour from the still 44 to the condensing tank 47 may be regulated by the level of condensed solvent in the tank and surplus vapour may be conveyed to the vapour bath, for example, by a pipe 55, which may normally be maintained closed.
