Excavating. - A motor tilling- machine which may be converted for excavating and loading soil and also for mowing and loading crops, comprises a frame mounted on wheels or endless tracks 7, a shovel-fronted ploughing plate 1, a power-driven conveying band 2, and a detachable frame carrying power-driven crushing or pulverizing rollers 3, a subsoil harrow 4, and a soil-levelling rake 5. The endless tracks or wheels, the conveyer and the front, crushing rollers are driven from a motor 6 arranged above or below the conveyer. The soil raised by the front plate 1 and carried rearwardly and upwardly by the conveyer 2 is loaded into wagons, discharged loose alongside the machine, or pulverized and deposited at the rear. A shoot or a hopper 10 is provided to direct the soil between the rollers 3 or into a waggon at the rear or alongside. Sloping transverse plates may be provided for inserting the soil as it falls. The straight-fronted curved plate 1 is carried by forwardly projecting arms and may be adjusted vertically by screws and hand-wheels 18. It may be of the same width as the conveyer, or may be wider at the front. It is provided with trimming coulters 9. The conveyer 2 is adjustable for position and for transport. The main frame shown bridges the conveyer and carries a platform on which the motor and driver's seat are mounted. The motor drives the endless tracks 7 through chain gearing and a counter shaft. The counter shaft drives the front crushing-roller 3 by spur and chain gearing, and the conveyer by spur and bolt gearing. The endless tracks may be placed directly under the conveyer.
