Surface-grading machines.-To permit of tilting the front or rear wheels of a road-grading machine to counteract side-slipping, the wheels are mounted on stub-axles 35 pivoted at 36 to the ends of the axle-tree 26 and cross-connected by a bar 38, moved, as for example by a bell-crank lever 40 and screw-gear 42, in order to tilt the wheels in unison. The invention is shown applied to the front axle of the machine, such axle being also capable of movement about a horizontal axis pin 28 carried by a king-bolt 30 which allows the axle is controlled by compression springs 54 workturntable 31 movable round the king-bolt for steering purposes. The rocking movement of the axle is controlled by compression springs 54 working in conjunction with guides 53 depending from the turntable. The invention may be applied to a rear axle fitted with a rack gear for transverse adjustment, as described in Specification 273,368.
