Abstract

315,488. Tyers, P. D. April 19, 1928. Magnetic instruments. - The magnetic flux through the vibrating armature of a gramophone pick-up is made variable to control the current output. In one modification Fig. 1, movable soft-iron plates 3, provided with knobs 4 slide in grooves 2 in a permanent magnet 1. Alternatively the relative position of plates 6, 8, Fig. 2, may be varied by moving plate 8 on a pivot 9. A further modification, Fig. 3, comprises a magnetic shunt 11, to which is attached a spring 12, also of magnetic material, in contact with the pole-pieces 10 and whose distance from the pole-pieces may be varied. A fourth construction, Fig. 4, comprises an iron screw 16 threaded into an extension 15 of a pole-piece 14, with a taper end 17 entering a tapered hole 18 in a corresponding extension of the other polepiece. The armature 19 moves between polepieces.
