Fire - extinguishing by steam or vapours or by solutions; chemicals; extincteurs; portable pressure reservoirs; sprinkling apparatus, non-automatic.- Fires in chimneys, where the fire causes a considerable draught, are extinguished by atomizing a liquid at the foot of the chimney and causing the fire spray to be carried to the fire by the draught, the rapid evaporation of the atomized liquid cooling the fire, and the vapour produced serving to quench it. The liquid used is preferably water to which may be added bicarbonates; or it may be carbon-tetrachloride, methyl bromide, or ammonia salts, and the like. As shown, 3 indicates soot burning in a chimmey @. The fire spray is produced at the foot of the chimney by any suitable atomizer 8 connected by a flexible pipe 7 to a reservoir 5 for the liqiud. Pressure is exerted on the surface of the liquid by compressed gas from a bottle 10, by a pump, or by introducing gas-producing chemicals to the reservoir at the time of use. Specifications 12548/86 and 568/89 are referred to. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) refers also to the extinction of fires in other partly enclosed spaces. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
