Wire fabrics.-In making woven wire screens, the longitudinal or transverse or both series of wires' 5 are bent by interengaging toothed rolls 3. 4 having teeth so formed that the space between the apex 7 of the tooth of one roll and the corresponding recess 8 in the other roll is less than the normal diameter of the wire, whereby the wire is flattened and hardened at the crests 9 of the corrugations, the teeth being so formed that the wire intermediate these crests is not engaged thereby and is thus not worked or hardened The wires 5 are interwoven in locked relation with wires 11, which may be straight, as shown, or crimped.
