Abstract

Globe galleries; securing globes to galleries. - In a globe gallery of moulded or cast material which is provided after the moulding or casting operation with a metal insert passing through a hole in the wall of the gallery, a part of the head of the insert engages with a side of a recess in, or lug, projection, or the like on, one side of the wall to prevent relative rotation, whilst a shoulder on the insert engages one side of the wall and means are formed or provided on the insert, after insertion of the insert in the hole, to engage the other side of the wall and prevent longitudinal movement. In the form shown in the Figure, a gallery 2 provided with ventilating holes 3 is moulded from a composition comprising a phenol formaldehyde synthetic resin and a suitable filler. The gallery is provided on its inner surface with pairs of lugs 6 and on its outer surface with bosses 7 drilled with holes between each pair of lugs. The lugs 6 engage the sides of square heads 10 formed at one end of each tubular insert, the other end being spun over to form a radially-extending flange 11. The inserts may be turned from square brass rods, and are threaded internally to receive globe-holding screws 12. According to the Provisional Specification, each insert may be formed with an hexagonal head, one flat of which may engage the side of a ledge running round the inside of the gallery.
