Abstract
313,135. Soc. of Chemical Industry in Basle. June 7, 1928, [Convention date]. Pickling; fluxes.-Bases of the di- and triarylmethane series are added, alone or mixed together or mixed with mineral salts, sulphite cellulose liquor, a sulphonated oil, a mono- or unsymmetrical di-acylated diamine and the corresponding ammonium bases, or sulphonated tar products, to acid liquids for cleaning metal from rust, scale, &c. for use in pickling baths or as liquid soldering fluxes. Diaminodiphenylmethane, diaminoditolylmethane, diaminodinaphthylmethane, the corresponding symmetrical and unsymmetrical primary or secondary N-substitution products, for example 4:4<1>-tetramethyldiaminodiphenylmethane, the corresponding ketones as 4 : 4<1>-tetramethyldiaminobenzophenone, 3 : 3<1> - diamino-4 : 4' - dimethyldiphenylmethane, and the leuco compounds of the triarylmethane dyestuffs containing amino-groups, such as leuco-crystal violet or leuco malachite green, or the corresponding quaternary ammonium bases of any of the above, are referred to. As examples of the process, 1000 parts by weight of 15 per cent hydrochloric acid may be mixed with 0.2 part of the hydrochloride of 4 : 4<1>-tetramethyldiaminodiphenylmethane. or with 0.1 part of the hydrochloride of 3 : 3<1>-diamino-4 : 4'-dimethyldiphenylmethane, or with a mixture of 0.1 part of the hydrochloride of 4 : 4<1>-tetramethyldiaminodiphenylmethane and 0.9 part of sulphite cellulose liquor, and the resulting liquids used at once, either hot or cold, for treating metals. The additions lessen the extent to which the metal is attacked without affecting the solvent action of the acid for rust and oxide.
