Abstract

313,047. Akt.-Ges. Brown, Boveri, et Cie. June 5, 1928, [Convention date]. Refrigerating, compression machines for.-The compressed refrigerant, e.g. sulphur dioxide, is forced by the pendulously-mounted compressor 6 through the passage 16 and the annular chamber 12 into the air-cooled coil 10 on the outside of the rotary condenser 9 and delivered at 17 into the condenser. The liquid refrigerant is delivered by a tube 18 to a compartment of the compressor casing and passes through a float-controlled valve and a, pipe 19 into the spiral passage 24 of the rotary evaporator 21 from the circumference of which the refrigerant vapour is drawn through the hollow shaft 4 and the passage 20 into the compressor cylinder. By this arrangement, the compresed refrigerant is cooled in the coil 10 before mixing with the refrigerant in the condenser 9 and the liquid refrigerant is heated by the brine in the vessel 32 before mixing with the vapour in the evaporator. In a modification, in which the compressor is mounted upon a fixed axle 44, Fig. 3, in n. rotary casing 37 integral with the condenser 38, the compressed refrigerant is forced through chambers 50 and radial passages 51 into a cooling-coil 47 and thence into the condenser from which it passes through the hollow shaft 36 into the spiral passage 24 of the evaporator. The vaporized refrigerant is drawn through the tube 55, chamber 53 and passages 52 into the compressor cylinders. In another arrangement, the compressed refrigerant is forced through the chambers 50, Figs. @4, 5, and ports @60 into air-cooled annular passages 57 and thence through passages 61 into the condenser 38. The passages 57 are provided with ribs, some of which extend to the portion 39 of the condenser to form axial air passages 58.
