Abstract

312,692. Neff, C. May 31, 1928, [Convention date]. Drawings to Specification. Regulation, automatic; installation conductor arrangements.-Condensers for phase displacement are constructed so as to locate the greatest capacity and least resistance at the terminals. According to one method, several coatings are wound one upon the other at the beginning and the number progressively reduced until one strip at the end is wound with the paper or other dielectric layer. In a modification the same number of layers is caused throughout the winding, but each of the foil strips is of tapering form, the broadest part being at the terminacl. In a further modification both methods may be combined. A bank of such condensers can be combined with a step switch so that the necessary capacity for phase displacement is automatically obtained through the intermediary of a phaseindicator device. The conducting wire to the bank may be so dimensioned that the cross-section at any point is in the same proportion to that of the main conductor as the capacity to which it leads bears to the total capacity.
