Rotary furnaces.-A rotary furnace used in the production of zinc oxide from metallic zinc or metals or alloys containing zinc by passing a stream of air over a molten bath of the material comprises a drum a rotatable at varying speeds on rollers k about a horizontal or slightly inclined axis, or a number of such drums arranged in series. An annular depression p furnished with a tap-hole r may serve for the collection and removal of impurities, and a furnace c may provide the necessary heat for initial melting of the charge.
