Abstract

312,457. Imray, O. Y., (Allgemeine Ges. f³r Chemische. Industrie). April 18, 1928. Gases, treating with liquids. - In drying gases by passage through liquids, the gas is led through tubes of small cross-section into a compartment containing Raschig rings, the level of the liquid being normally slightly above the gas inlet ends of the tubes so that the gas and liquid are intimately mixed. The tubes are vertical or horizontal, and the liquid returns in a closed path for reuse. Gases are drawn by a vacuum pump from the tube 14 into a vessel 7 containing tubes 9 of small cross section dipping into liquid 10 so that gas and liquid pass together up the tubes to a transverse partition 8. The gas passes through Raschig rings 13 or the like, and the liquid returns by a larger longer tube 11. Fresh liquid is added at 16, and spent liquid withdrawn into a container 18. The liquid level is read by a gauge 17, the gas being passed through a tube 22 while the liquid settles. Horizontal tubes may be immersed in the liquid, and a vertical partition at the inlet end ensures the gas passing through. The liquid returns through spaces below the partition and the gas passes on through Raschig rings.
