Abstract
312,107. Schank, A., and Bittel, O. Feb. 17, 1928. Catch gear of mine-cage type.-A safety suspending appliance for lift cages &c. has a frame movable relatively to the cage and carrying the main brakes, the frame also carrying pilot brakes, which are normally kept out of action by triggers operated by a spring-pressed plunger on breakage of the winding cable, so as to cause the pilot brakes to be applied, the subsequent movement of the cage applying the main brakes. The cage b has uprights c on which a horizontal frame d slides. Brackets n on the frame carry co-axial rods o provided at their ends with brake shoes p and forming the pilot brakes. The pilot brakes are adapted to be pressed against the guides a by springs r but are normally retained out of action by pivoted bent levers s connected to a vertically slidable plate v. The cage is suspended from the winding cable by a frame b<1> bearing through a coil spring y on a leaf spring x mounted in a frame x<1> to which the cable is connected. When the rope breaks, the coil spring presses a plunger w against the plate v thus releasing the bent levers sand allowing the pilot brakes to engage the guides. As the cage moves downwards relatively to the frame, bent levers j pivoted to the cage push outwards wedge blocks i mounted between the main brake levers f and so cause the main brake shoes g to engage the guides and stop the cage.
